GERALD<br />(Retired priest of the Archdiocese of Kingston)<br /><br />Peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, January 28, 2016, in his 89th year. <br /><br />Father Scanlan was born on August 19, 1927, and ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood on May 22, 1952. He served as Associate Pastor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Marmora, and St. Bernadette, Ormsby, from 1952-1953; at St. Peter&rsquo;s Parish, Trenton, from 1953-1955; at St. Mark&rsquo;s Parish, Prescott, from 1955-57; and at St. John&rsquo;s Parish, Kingston, from 1957-1959. He served as Pastor at St. Daniel&rsquo;s Parish, South Mountain, from 1959-1967; at Sacred Heart Parish, Marmora, and St. Bernadette, Ormsby, from 1967-1977; at Holy Name of Mary Parish, Marysville, from 1977-1987; at St. Vincent de Paul, Deseronto, from 1981-1987; and at St. Carthagh&rsquo;s Parish, Tweed, and St. Edmund&rsquo;s Parish, Stoco, from 1987-2002. <br /><br />Father Scanlan was a beloved son of the late John Joseph Scanlan and Ethel (Herlehy) Scanlan. Dear brother of F. Eugene Scanlan; predeceased by his siblings Mary F. Scanlan, Terence P. Scanlan, John G. Scanlan (the late Mary T.), Wilfrid G. Scanlan, M. Joseph Scanlan (the late Ina), James L. Scanlan, C. Kevin Scanlan, and M. Cecilia Walsh (Francis P.). Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and their families.<br /><br />Friends will be received at the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 49 Colborne Street (at Clergy St.) on Saturday, January 30, from 2-4 p.m.; on Sunday, January 31, from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. <br /><br />Visitation will continue on Monday, February 1, at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel, Providence Manor, 275 Sydenham Street, Kingston, from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. A reception will be held at the funeral home until 1 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Edward's Cemetery, Westport, at 2 p.m. <br />For those wishing, donations to the Priests&rsquo; Retirement Fund of the Archdiocese of Kingston or to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Providence Manor) would be appreciated by the family.<br /></div>
