<div itemprop="description">FLUREY, REVEREND FATHER ROBERT JOSEPH<br />(Retired priest of the Archdiocese of Kingston)<br /><br />Peacefully, at St. Mary&rsquo;s of the Lake Hospital, on Thursday, March 10, 2016, in his 89th year. Father Flurey was born in Picton on May 5, 1927, and ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood in Belleville on May 30, 1953. <br /><br />He served as Associate Pastor at St. John&rsquo;s Parish, Kingston (1953); and at St. Mary&rsquo;s Cathedral, Kingston, from 1953-1967. He was Founding Pastor in 1967 of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Kingston, and served there from 1967-1983. He then served as Pastor at Sacred Heart of Mary Parish, Madoc, from 1983-1987; and at St. John the Evangelist Parish, Gananoque, from 1987-2002. He has been a resident priest at St. Mary&rsquo;s Cathedral since his retirement in 2002. In addition to his parish work, Father Flurey served as Chaplain at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Providence from 1953-1967; as Chaplain at the Prison for Women from 1959-1967; and as Chaplain of Knights of Columbus Councils in Kingston and Belleville. <br /><br />He was a member of the CCCB National Liturgical Commission from 1964-1971, and of various Committees and Commissions of the Archdiocese of Kingston. Father Flurey had a great love of music and was a skilled choral director. He studied music at the Pontifical College of Sacred Music in Rome; at St. Michael&rsquo;s Choir School in Toronto, and at Queen&rsquo;s University in Kingston. He was Diocesan Director of Sacred Music from 1953-1991, and Director of the Diocesan Choir from 1982-1991.<br /><br />Father Flurey was a beloved son of the late Thomas Flurey and Mary (Graves) Flurey. Dear brother of Norah Ford; predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Morrison) Evans; and his brother, Gerry Flurey. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephew and their families.<br /><br />Visitation will be held at St. Mary&rsquo;s Cathedral on Monday, March 14, from 1:00 p.m. &ndash; 6:30 p.m.; and on Tuesday, March 15, from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. <br /><br />Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery, Gananoque. <br /><br />A heartfelt thanks to the Emergency Doctors and staff and the doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Mary&rsquo;s of the Lake.<br /><br />For those wishing, donations to the Priests&rsquo; Retirement Fund of the Archdiocese of Kingston or the UHKF Palliative Care Unit at St. Mary&rsquo;s of the Lake Hospital.
